Breaking open the teeth piñatas reflects the rush you get when indulging in the bad habit, but leaves you with long term damage to your body. In this case you’re rewarded in the short term with candy, but are left with a mouthful of broken teeth. The fabric is hung from the ceiling and larger than life to reflect typical piñatas, but also to imply that it could consume you. This piece explores the “guilt” in guilty pleasures in a playful way.

What Lies in One’s Heart 2025 4 minutes, 48 seconds; 4:48 Video, live performance scavenger-hunt Artist Statement The students activate (a tamer version of) a death game scenario via a scavenger-hunt, where they must find six hearts to answer a riddle while avoiding the opposing team and the hunter. The “death game” is an exaggerated reflection of how one may respond when forced in a stress-inducing “dog-eat-dog” situation. Wearing the animal masks implies this idea, along with the concept of dehumanization, when the students run after or away from the enemies while searching. In addition, I created a silicone mold to cast life-sized human hearts with gelatin because the human heart represents a human’s vital organs, life, and morality. Gelatin also allows a person to experience holding the hearts and crushing it at will, indicating how one may lose their humanity or their own life, or choose to end other people’s lives and trust to achieve victory.

I cut up the fabric into pieces to make it quilt-like and homemade. I wanted the shell to feel warm and childlike for the subject. Rather than displaying it in a gallery, I wanted to present it outside in the grass where you are most likely going to find a snail.
